I was so glad someone asked this question as I was just wondering about this myself! I knew it was possible but never found the time to research it and implement from my end. My friend Kathryn gives easy to follow instructions to make your life easier and schedule those FB posts too! I am a big believer in scheduling tweets that you know you want to send (and then of course filling in with relevant things as the day goes on) but now to be able to schedule FB posts too! Woo Hoo!
Dear Sarah, How do you schedule FB to post like tweets on hootsuite?” Is this possible and can you tell me how to do it? Thanks – Robin Humphrey http://www.robincharlotte.com
Dear Robin,
Thank you for your question. Hootsuite is one of our favorite tools and can be used not only to schedule and monitor Twitter but yes also to monitor Facebook personal and pages, Linkedin, Ping.fm, WordPress, Myspace and now Foursquare. Quite an impressive list!
You can also set it up for team members to use, like a Virtual Assistant so you don’t have to give your userids and passwords out to your team, they can be set up in your team network and can manage from there.
To your question, how do you schedule Facebook posts through Hootsuite? Here are the instructions:
1. When you sign in to Hootsuite, go to “settings” on the bottom left
2. Click add social network
3. Click on the Facebook tab on the left side of the pop up window
4. Click “connect with Facebook”, enter your userid and password then click connect.
Your Facebook profile is now stored in Hootsuite. You will also see your facebook profile icon come up next to the status update bar in Hootsuite. To post to your profile, begin typing and then when you’re done, you can decide on which social network this post will appear. If you only want it to go into your Facebook newsfeed, click on only the Facebook icon or if you want it to go to all social networks click all. Then click “share” and it will post.
A couple of cautions, however:
1. Be mindful of the character count.
2. If you decide to post across different networks you will want to keep your update to 120 characters to allow for re-tweets on Twitter.
3. You cannot “add link” like you can on the Facebook platform so if you only post from Hootsuite, your friends and fans will not see the thumbnails that make a lot of posts and walls look colorful.
4. Lastly, you cannot “tag” people or pages in Hootsuite.
Good luck with Hootsuite!
Best,
Kathryn Rose

Thanks for the informative heads-up!
Unfortunately, adding a link or a photo, etc. is the name of the game if you want your FB posts to be passed around — with one, people can just click “Share” and virally spread your message. Otherwise, they have to cut and paste, if they bother, and attribution drops off.
Unless something’s changed overnight at FB! 😀
A question: do you have any tips for receiving notification that someone has posted or commented on one’s Page? I’m currently “Liking” and commenting on my own posts, and that works sometimes, but not always. I’m considering starting a Group because of this and because messaging everyone works, as opposed to only being able to send out an Update to Page likers. Thoughts and suggestions?
I love the Entreprenette Gazette! Informative as always.
Heather, If you log into Facebook, click “Account” in the upper right corner, then click “Account Settings”, then click “Notifications”, then we’re halfway there! You can select getting notifications for “Posts on my Wall” under the “Facebook” header (you can even receive SMS messages when someone posts on your wall), and you can also select “Comments on a Story in my Wall” under the “Wall Comments”.
The other brilliant thing you can do on this page is to unclick a myriad of things so you don’t get notifications every time you get a message or a friend request.
Happy Facebooking,
Lindsay
Thank you for this info! I was looking into options for this as well and recently started using http://sendible.com. I am still working around it figuring it out. Have any of you tried this service out?

I take it that via Hootsuite you cannot access your administrator pages, just your own personal account then?
Thanks, great resource you provided us with!
Wow ~ I signed up … it was so easy! Thanks for the info ~ this is a great tool! ;-Deb
I signed up too! Been wanting to try Hootsuite – this just made it so easy!
Thanks Sarah and Kathryn!

I signed up for hootsuite and was really excited to use this application for the collective of independent fashion designers I oversee. I wanted the team members to be able to post their own links to their newly listed items. However, when we post the link on facebook directly, a thumbnail picture and abbreviated description about the link comes up~this is a great promotional tool for us to SHOW our fans and give them a taste of the item we are promoting. However, when posting a link through hootsuite, only the link comes up, and not the thumbnail or little blurb. I was disappointed in this and will just have to go back to manually posting the links to our page. It’s a great idea though, maybe this is something you might be able to improve upon.
Hi Lindsay,
Your instructions only work for one’s personal account, not for receiving notifications about one’s professional Page. It’s a known glitch in Facebook.
Hrmm that was weird, my comment got eaten. Anyway I wanted to say that it’s nice to know that someone else also mentioned this as I had trouble finding the same info elsewhere. This was the first place that told me the answer. Thanks.
Thank you! This was a great help. I now LOVE Hootsuite!
I’ve been playing around with Hootsuite a bit – nothing serious, though. I’m one to share links on Facebook. I’ve yet to start actively using Twitter. I think Hootsuite will be more appropriate with Twitter in my case. Thank you for this information. I’m going to tackle it some more and see what I can get out of it.
You can use PostCron, a very simple application for scheduling facebook posts, links and photos. The link is http://postcron.com/.
This info are really simple and easy to try. I believe all to be happy with this. Thank you for sharing with us the information. We are from Bali Photographer very happy read this info, because it’s very important to get traffic on our website. Keep posting to us!
