If you know me at all, you know I hate paying for press or any kind of advertising at all……when possible. And I would probably never suggest that you pay for it either. :O) It's really important to be consistent in your communication with all editors in your industry. Ideally, you want to create a real relationship with them so they open your emails and actually take your calls….. no, its not a dream. This can happen if you keep up.
The first thing you want to do is get to know the magazine (really well) and the editors that are right for your product line. What I am saying is, get a subscription to all the magazines that you feel are right for your brand. You can get ipad versions now too if you want less recycling. The reason I am suggesting this is that you want to really really really get to know what columns people write and if it is appropriate for you to pitch them…..pitching the wrong editor is a waste of everyone's time. It will get you nowhere sister!
Once you feel good about the mags you choose and have narrowed down the correct editors, you are ready to pitch!
